Cameroon is undoubtedly spoiled by international sports bodies. After the women's handball CAN scheduled for June, and the football CAN next year, the country of the Indomitable Lions has just been designated to host the women's Afrobasket 2021. The continental competition will take place from September 17 to 26 in Polyvalent Sports Palace of Yaoundé, in the capital of the country.

The announcement was made by the Federation Internationale de Basketball Association (FIBA). A decision that follows "the agreement signed on behalf of the Cameroonian government by Cameroon's Sports Minister Kombi Mouelle," FIBA reported. The women's Afrobasket 2021 will bring together 12 nations.

And according to FIBA, some of them are automatically qualified. In particular the host country and those who reached the last four of the competition two years ago. These are the title holders Nigeria, the unfortunate finalist Senegal, Mali (3rd) and Mozambique (4th). There are therefore seven places to take.

According to FIBA, regional qualifying tournaments should be organized by the end of the current May. "The last tickets will be obtained by July, the winners of each of them qualifying directly for the finals in Cameroon," explained the world basketball body.
